Artisanship
How far have we come? In culture that is. Art, sculpture, paintings, whatever you look at. In terms of building, museums, all that is best seems to be behind us. In technology we have lost a certain luddite skill. I’m not sure a picture made with cow dung or depicting pseudo-futuristic ironic plagiarism is the best we can manage. I like the old buildings, the old art and form, which dealt with beauty and religion and told us something with it. They were more impressive, more handsome, and gave us something that we could all be proud of: to live amongst, to be part of. Angels playing harps, and landscapes full of trees and haywains may be their limit, but at least we could appreciate the skill and the fullness of being that they represented.
Did the folk of yesteryear have a point, when they said robots and machines are the future and a disappointment when we consider the skill and art of the folk who lived with us?
It is shame when we consider the buildings like the Grenfell Tower which was built hastily and without regard for the people inside. These buildings are both an eyesore and a danger to the people who live within. More time and consideration should be given to the land and people of our country and our world. Let us learn from the past; they must be remembered. Our modern culture has much that can be transferred and elevated. Past geniuses should not have found their graves without helping the present day.
