Christmas Carols

At this time of year, our thoughts go to turkeys and how to avoid eating brussels sprouts. Even ones called Barry. But one of the most enjoyable of Christmas activities are carols. They are available for free, they come with music, and hopefully mince pies and mulled wine. Unfortunately when I try to belt out the carols I end up sounding like my dad. I remember from my youth I tried to sound more like a proper singer, but I realise now that was a forlorn hope.

Church services from this time of year remind me of my youth and in this I began an emotional experience, with the amazing choir/orchestra brought together possibly with gods will, to enliven and brighten our lives.

Carols are the most uplifting and enjoyable of church hymns, and bring joy to our lives even if we only go to church at xmas or even if we are not christians.

Singing ‘O Come All ye Faithful’ is definitely a good way to celebrate xmas. For reminding ourselves of good-nature and our youth not really understanding it all, was the reason carols and presents were introduced into our lives. In any holiday season we need a reason to celebrate. It’s just a shame Jesus had to die in order for us to sing and praise him.

Jesus may be a reason for us thinking or doing certain things – and us recognising this and letting him into our lives may be a way into religion and Christianity. People have testified that they felt empty until Jesus arrived into their souls. Meaning – especially with joy – is something all of us surely would want.

Can letting Jesus into our lives help us? Transform our lives? Simply by listening to ourselves may be a way to become Christian, give meaning to our lives and let Jesus – who supposedly knows all – help us.
